About Schrikkloof Private Nature Reserve
Nestled in Bela-Bela, in the northern province of Limpopo, South Africa, Schrikkloof Private Nature Reserve spans 1,000 hectares of pristine wilderness. At its heart lies The Lions Foundation, a sanctuary dedicated to rescued big cats. On the estate, you’ll find a stylish lodge with 10 elegant guest rooms, where all profits directly support The Lions Foundation. Schrikkloof and The Lions Foundation employ 10 local staff, creating a community built on conservation and compassion.
Schrikkloof is a haven for bird lovers
Each of our lodges is carefully spaced apart, offering guests a profound sense of peace and privacy in the middle of the African bush. Designed to blend seamlessly with the landscape, the lodges reflect our philosophy of living lightly on the land – where comfort and sustainability meet.
Schrikkloof is a paradise for bird enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. From your private balcony, you may spot the lilac-breasted roller, weavers, kingfishers, or the elegant African paradise flycatcher. The large tree beside the pool buzzes with life as weavers build their intricate nests, while the grasses below shelter butterflies, grasshoppers, and other small wonders. Join one of our guided nature walks to explore the bush up close and discover the subtle beauty that makes Schrikkloof so special.
By staying at Schrikkloof, you directly support The Lions Foundation, helping to provide a safe haven and a second chance at life for rescued lions. Here, luxury, conservation, and tranquility come together – a place where design truly blends with nature, and every stay makes a difference.
