Visit Rescue & Conservation Centre

Across the road from Schrikkloof lies The Lions Foundation Rescue & Conservation Centre — a sanctuary where rescued predators find safety, care, and a chance to live with dignity.

Just across the road from Schrikkloof lies The Lions Foundation Rescue & Conservation Centre, a sanctuary dedicated to giving animals in need a second chance. In 2023, The Lions Foundation took over a derelict predator park adjacent to the reserve. Once used for breeding and trade, these animals – including leopards, wild dogs, hyenas, and jackals – are now part of a compassionate rescue and rehabilitation mission.

Many of the rescued animals still live in old enclosures inherited from the former park. To give them the quality of life they deserve, we’re building spacious, natural habitats across 20 hectares, designed to provide comfort, enrichment, and safety for species such as leopards, jackals, wild dogs, hyenas, servals, and caracals. The new enclosures will form the shape of a lion’s head, visible from the air on Google Maps, and covering 20 hectares of African savanna.

Through this ongoing project, The Lions Foundation strives to raise awareness for animal welfare, promote education, and inspire others to take part in protecting wildlife. Our mission includes rescuing animals of all kinds, not just big cats.

Guests of Schrikkloof can visit the Rescue & Conservation Centre: our team will show you around and will explain about all the animals and the plans for the coming years.
